I’m sure most of you know about NaNoWriMo, the community writing event that takes place every November. What you may not be aware of is that, as of 2011, the good people behind NaNoWriMo have put together another project called Camp NaNoWriMo, which takes place in April and July.Camp NaNoWriMo is similar to regular NaNoWriMo: both task you with penning a 50,000 word novel (or ‘large piece of fiction’, as it’s broadly defined) in the space of a month. I’ve only just heard about it, but the differences seem twofold:
For one, it’s not in November.
For another: There’s an option to band together with other writers in a virtual ‘camp’. By doing this you can encourage one another, share work and hold each other accountable. It’s completely optional and you can, of course, go it alone. It’s NaNoWriMo as a team effort.
